How Does Bubble Text Work?

Every character on your screen has a unique number in Unicode, the worldwide standard that lets phones, computers and apps share text. Alongside the normal alphabet, Unicode includes special "enclosed" characters that were originally added for things like numbered lists, signs and Japanese and Korean typography.

People often use "bubble text" and "bubble font" to mean the same thing, but they're quite different. Bubble text is made of special Unicode characters, so it travels with your words into any app. A bubble font is a design file — like the free Rubik Bubbles on Google Fonts — that only changes how text looks inside programmes that let you pick a font.

So if you want puffy letters on a poster, school project or Canva design, a bubble font is the better choice. If you want round letters in an Instagram bio, TikTok caption or Discord name, where you can't change the font, you need copy-and-paste bubble text from a generator like this one.

Bubble letters display on virtually all modern iPhones, Android phones, Windows PCs and Macs.
